Matt Montesano (Second Chance p/b Zubaz) and Daniel Casper (Donkey Label) battled all night long in pursuit of the TROY title on Thursday, with Montesano rallying for a final win to secure a tie with Casper with 90 points each.
Montesano’s third place in the State Scratch Race proved the decisive tie-breaker, giving him the 2015 TROY title. After second and first place finishes in Thursday’s first two events, Casper held a narrow one point lead in the TROY table. Montesano needed a win in the final points race and needed to prevent Casper from taking better than third place. Montesano went hard after points throughout the race and kept Casper away from the big points during each sprint. As the dust settled, Montesano took the win and Casper took third, giving Montesano the TROY title by the slimmest margin in NSC Velodrome history.
After a year without the yellow number 1 on her jersey, Abby Krawczyk (ISCorp) regained her TROY crown, holding off Margeaux Claude (The Fix), despite Claude’s two wins in Thursday’s season finale. Krawczyk dominated each race she contested this season, never finishing lower than second place. Claude rode a consistent season to second place for the second consecutive season, missing points on just two evenings.
